Birmingham Children’s Trust supports those young people in care, children with severe disabilities and those leaving the care system and preparing for adulthood.

The Trust’s wide ranging services are based on care and compassion, listening to what children and young people need and involving them in the decisions that affect them.

In 2021, the Trust launched its official charity, Bfriends, as a means of engaging the business in support of young people leaving care.

Our partnership with Birmingham Children’s Trust continues to evolve

‘Develop Me’ is a mentoring programme that matches professionals with young people, based on the type of support they need.

Six members of team OTD have committed to working with disadvantaged young people through the programme, which includes a combination of face-to-face meetings and structured calls.

We attended awareness sessions, a series of training events and the programme launch day, before meeting our mentees.

A natural extension of our relationship with the Trust, ‘Develop Me’ offers young people the best chance of fulfilling their potential in life and in a future career.

It’s not only young people who can benefit from mentoring. We also provided one-to-one mentoring to a key member of the Trust’s engagement team.

Additional support has included:

  • Purchasing vouchers for a care leavers conference.
  • Providing gifts for foster families celebrating Eid.
  • A ‘winter’ donation that helped fund Christmas presents for those in care.

Finally, we were also proud to attend the premiere of ‘Future You’, a film that shared the personal life experiences of four young people leaving care. Powerful and thought provoking, we played the video at our internal coach forum and attended its showing at Birmingham’s Council House.
