Birmingham is the youngest city in Europe with 40% of its population under the age of 25 but not every young person who lives there has the same level of opportunity. First Class Foundation specialises in tackling youth violence and building mental resilience. It also plays a leading role in challenging the over representation and under representation of young black people in key sectors including, mental health, criminal justice and education.

Specialist support for Birmingham’s young people

As a young and fast-growing charity, First Class Foundation increasingly needs more dedicated staff to help it deliver services across Birmingham and the Black Country.

The demands of recruitment and ongoing management require specialist HR services which are not always feasible to fund in-house.

We have been able to make a financial contribution which has enabled the charity to procure the external support it needed for up to six months.

We have also been able to:

  • Offer practical, hands-on support, through the provision of mentoring and pre-employability training sessions
  • Donate to the charity’s ‘Girl Empowerment’ initiative, which distributed sanitary products to people who needed them.
  • Provide public support for many of the charity’s fundraising initiatives, from its minibus appeal to a youth violence campaign.

Our involvement in the ‘Big Purple Dress Up’ saw team OTD take part in a walk through Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter, sporting the charity’s distinctive purple t-shirts.

Every penny raised via the campaign was used to support families in the aftermath of crime, funding everything from food to counselling services.

Sabrina Dennis, Chief Executive Officer, First Class Foundation said:

“The support from OTD has been invaluable. As a growing charity, OTD has helped us with HR which has been game-changing, especially around recruitment and training. This level of support ultimately makes the world of difference to the young people we work with, many of whom would otherwise go without.

“The opportunity to share our challenges in a 360 style conversation was absolutely wonderful and offered us the chance to meet with other charity leaders to build partnerships and also create solutions together. We are extremely grateful to the team at OTD.”
